In response to the criticism, Fernandes stated that the current leadership has been working to the best of its ability and assured that it has the support of the majority of athletes and officials affiliated with the Regional Track and Field Association.

The official also noted that the Association is expected to present its 2027 Activity Plan shortly, a document that will outline the institution’s main actions and priorities for the coming year.

Adelino Fernandes also took the opportunity to refute what he considers to be attempts by some individuals to “take over” the Regional Athletics Association. According to him, there are groups interested in assuming control of the organization.

Among those targeted, Fernandes singled out the person in charge of the “Desporto Brava” page, an online platform that tracks and reports on sports news related to the island of Brava.

The President of the Regional Athletics Association stated that some of the information and criticism published have gone beyond the bounds of sports debate, which is why he decided to seek help from the authorities.

Fernandes revealed that he has already filed a complaint against individuals who, he claims, are misusing his name. The official did not, however, provide further details about the case.

Regarding the accusation that the Regional Athletics Association receives funds from the Federation, Adelino Fernandes rejected any claim of a lack of transparency in the management of the institution’s resources.

He explained that he presents the Association’s financial statements to the General Assembly, arguing that the accountability procedures allow members to understand the organization’s financial situation and how its resources are being used.

Finally, Adelino Fernandes reaffirmed the board’s commitment to continuing to work on behalf of track and field, assuring that the Association intends to move forward with new initiatives and present the Plan for 2027, despite the resource constraints and criticism that have marked the institution’s current situation.
